Joining the First PACTS Learning Session: A Step Toward Stronger Sickle Cell Care in Africa
On December 13, 2024, the Lords Blessings Foundation was invited to attend the first learning session organised by the Patient-Centered Sickle Cell Disease Management in Africa Research Group (PACTS Project). The event was held at the Impact Building, KNUST, near Chancellor’s Hall, and brought together a wide range of stakeholders committed to improving care for sickle cell patients.
The PACTS Project is a multidisciplinary research initiative aimed at promoting patient-centered care for individuals living with sickle cell disease. The project fosters collaboration among patients, health workers, policymakers, NGOs, and local communities to identify and eliminate barriers to care.
As an organization devoted to sickle cell advocacy and support, we were honored to participate in this important session. It provided a valuable space for different facilities and communities to:
Share the work they’ve been doing to support patient care
Discuss challenges they’ve encountered
Showcase innovative solutions developed at the grassroots level
Learn from each other’s approaches
The session was led by Professor Alex Osei-Akoto, Principal Investigator of the PACTS Project and an Honorary Consultant Paediatrician at the Department of Child Health, KNUST and Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital. His leadership and commitment to patient-centered research were truly inspiring.
This learning session was more than just a meeting—it was a call to action for all stakeholders to continue working together to improve the lives of those living with sickle cell disease.
We thank the PACTS Research Group for this invitation and for their dedication to transforming sickle cell care in Africa.
